Tesla Wants to Woo Lawmakers with Its Optimus Robot

Story Highlights

Tesla will show off its Optimus robot to lawmakers today with a special presentation on Capitol Hill.

Tesla Wants to Woo Lawmakers with Its Optimus Robot

Tesla (TSLA) wants to catch the attention of lawmakers with plans to showcase its Optimus humanoid robot in Washington, D.C. today. An invite to the event obtained by Axios specifies it will take place at Capitol Hill’s Cannon House Office building as part of a robotics symposium.

While Tesla is largely known for its electric vehicle (EV) business, the company has expanded over the years, dipping its toes into solar energy, artificial intelligence (AI), and robotics. The invitation sent to lawmakers offers them a “glimpse of the future.”

Tesla may be talking about its own future rather than that of the world. The company’s EV performance hasn’t been as strong lately, and U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies aren’t in favor of EVs. That’s despite Tesla CEO Elon Musk acting as a close aide to Trump and leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

What This Means for Tesla

Speculation about Tesla shifting focus from EVs to AI and robotics has some investors wondering what the future holds for it. The company could benefit from this change, and appealing to lawmakers is one way of showcasing the potential of its AI and robotics businesses and gaining support.

Investors would also likely welcome the change, as Tesla’s stock hasn’t performed well alongside decreased interest in the EV market. Shares of TSLA were down 4.01% on Wednesday and have dropped 31.34% year-to-date after a rally late last year when President Trump won the election.

Is TSLA Stock a Buy, Sell, or Hold?

Turning to Wall Street, the analysts’ consensus rating for Tesla is Hold based on 14 Buy, 11 Hold, and 11 Sell ratings over the last three months. With that comes an average price target of $335.32, a high of $550, and a low of $120. This represents a potential 21.52% upside for TSLA stock.
