Rigetti Computing (RGTI) will report its second-quarter earnings on Thursday, August 6, after the market closes. Investors want to know if a $2 billion federal program will drive the next stock rally. This may be likely, because public backing gives RGTI stock a strong safety net that helps protect it from higher interest rates. The government initiative focuses on building domestic quantum hardware and cloud networks to stay ahead of rivals.
Rigetti Computing fits right into this effort through its chips, its QCS cloud platform, and existing public contracts. Chief Executive Officer Subodh Kulkarni has noted that government work provides the main revenue base for Rigetti Computing while it builds out its business tools. Earlier this year, Rigetti delivered a 36-qubit system under a federal contract, proving its ability to meet key public goals.
Rigetti’s Upcoming Lyra System Targets Commercial Sales
Beyond public backing, upcoming tech launches create the main path for future sales growth. Rigetti plans to roll out its Lyra system late in 2026. The new machine will feature over 100 qubits with improved error rates and higher system speeds.
“The focus is not on the number of qubits, it is on the quality of the qubits, as coherence times, gate fidelity, and other qubit quality metrics are improving,” noted market analyst Arslan Ali in a recent research report.
If Rigetti Computing delivers the Lyra system on time, the technology will allow business clients in finance and medicine to run complex testing. Leading banks and drug firms currently run tests on the QCS platform. Higher system quality on the Lyra machine could turn those early tests into paying commercial contracts.
RGTI Stock Is Holding onto its Price Support
Technical charts show RGTI stock is holding key price support after its recent rally. RGTI shares recently dipped from $26.97 to test key technical support at $24.86. Buyers quickly stepped in at that level, keeping the upward trend line from $15.48 intact.
The Relative Strength Index for RGTI stock cooled from an overbought reading of 77 down to a balanced 59.22 without showing negative trends. This indicator reset gives RGTI stock room to move higher.
Is RGTI Stock a Good Buy?
Heading into Q2 earnings, Wall Street has a Moderate Buy consensus rating on Rigetti Computing stock based on six Buys and three Holds. The average 12-month RGTI stock price target of $30.71 indicates 81% upside potential.
