HeroDevs Emphasizes Regulatory and Security Risks in Legacy Open Source Software

HeroDevs spent the week spotlighting rising security and compliance risks tied to end-of-life open source software as AI accelerates vulnerability discovery. The company referenced Anthropic’s Project Glasswing, where more than 25,000 potential flaws were flagged, but only a small share advanced to disclosure and patching.

HeroDevs argued that AI is dramatically expanding the pipeline of identified vulnerabilities, while remediation, validation, and long-term maintenance remain human-intensive. This gap is especially pronounced in open source projects that depend on limited maintainer resources.

In a separate update, HeroDevs highlighted new obligations under the EU Cyber Resilience Act for products that rely on unsupported frameworks. The firm warned that continued use of AngularJS, older Node runtimes, and similar legacy components could represent legal liabilities rather than mere technical debt.

The company promoted a 45-minute webinar led by COO Rob Nalen to examine how end-of-life open source intersects with CRA, NIS2, DORA, and major U.S. regulatory frameworks. The session is positioned to help organizations understand evidence requirements and reporting duties for actively exploited vulnerabilities.

Across its communications, HeroDevs is framing its services around lifecycle management and extended security maintenance for critical open source dependencies. The focus on regulatory-driven demand suggests potential for recurring revenue tied to long-term maintenance and compliance-oriented advisory work.

If customers increasingly seek structured support for legacy stacks amid tighter cyber resilience rules, HeroDevs’ niche in post–end-of-life remediation could strengthen its competitive position. Overall, the week underscored the company’s efforts to align its offerings with growing scrutiny of software supply-chain risk and regulatory compliance.
