Expo Expands Cloud-Based Mobile App Testing With Cross-Platform Simulators

According to a recent LinkedIn post from Expo, the company is highlighting a new cloud-based Simulators service designed to let developers build and test iOS apps from non-macOS machines. The post describes how iOS Simulator sessions can now run in the cloud and stream to a browser, enabling development workflows from Windows, Linux, and even constrained Windows on ARM devices.

The post suggests this service extends Expo’s EAS Build platform by closing the feedback loop that previously required physical iPhones for testing. It notes capabilities such as camera testing without hardware, multi-user sharing of a live “phone in a browser tab,” automated agent-driven UI verification, and recorded replays to support code review.

As shared in the LinkedIn post, Simulators are described as platform-agnostic, supporting iOS simulator builds and Android APKs across frameworks including SwiftUI, Kotlin, and Flutter. The feature is currently positioned as a limited-access preview opened in batches from a waitlist, indicating a phased rollout that may help Expo manage demand and refine the service.

For investors, this development points to a potential strengthening of Expo’s role in cross-platform mobile development tooling. By reducing dependence on Apple hardware and expanding AI-agent and remote collaboration capabilities, Expo may increase its appeal to enterprise teams and distributed developers, potentially supporting user growth and higher-value subscription tiers.

The post further implies strategic alignment with trends in cloud-based development, remote work, and AI-assisted coding. If adoption is strong, this kind of infrastructure-style service could deepen customer lock-in to Expo’s ecosystem and improve revenue visibility, while also differentiating the company against competing mobile build and test platforms.
