Nvidia (NVDA) has launched a new platform that will help power scientific supercomputers.
The chipmaker says that its Vera Rubin accelerated computing platform will aid scientific research institutions and national laboratories, providing them with high-performance computing and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.
According to the company, a single Vera Rubin rack system will deliver more than seven exaflops of AI performance and five petaflops of computing power with up to 144 of its graphics processing units (GPUs) deployed per rack. That system will help run the world’s most powerful supercomputers.
The Benefits of Supercomputers
Several research institutions around the world have committed to deploying Nvidia’s Vera Rubin-based system, including Germany’s Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center in the U.S., and Dell Technologies (DELL) system called Doudna.
Supercomputers have many benefits, including helping to accelerate drug discoveries, solve complex equations, and advance AI applications. Nvidia said its new Vera Rubin-based system will be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
