Nvidia Launches First Open-Source Quantum AI Models

NVIDIA (NVDA) has launched its first open-source quantum artificial intelligence (AI) models designed to help researchers and enterprises build quantum processors for practical applications.

Specifically, Nvidia has launched the Ising model of quantum AI models. They’re comprised of two components: Ising Calibration, a vision language model for automating quantum processor calibration, and Ising Decoding, which uses three-dimensional (3D) convolutional neural networks for quantum error correction.

According to Nvidia, the Ising models perform up to 2.5 times faster and three times more accurately than pyMatching, which is the current open-source industry standard. In addition to making microchips and processors, Nvidia is pushing further into areas such as quantum and super computers.

The Role of Academia

Nvidia says that its new quantum AI models are being adopted by several academic institutions, including Harvard University in the U.S. and the United Kingdom’s National Physical Laboratory. “AI is essential to making quantum computing practical,” said Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, in a news release.

The quantum computing market is forecast to exceed $11 billion by 2030, according to analyst firm Resonance. Huang has said that achieving useful quantum computer applications requires breakthroughs in quantum processor calibration and quantum error correction, the two areas Nvidia is tackling with its new open-source models.

Is NVDA Stock a Buy?

Nvidia’s stock has a consensus Strong Buy rating among 42 Wall Street analysts. That rating is based on 41 Buy and one Hold recommendations issued in the past three months. The average NVDA price target of $273.34 implies 55% upside from current levels.
