At a recent webinar, TipRanks users had the opportunity to ask Uri Gruenbaum, the company’s CEO and co-founder, questions.
This webinar was mainly aimed at new TipRanks users and with over 240 attendees, was hugely successful. Demand was over the roof and we’ll let you know when the next one is.
In the meantime, here are the questions that were of most interest to participants and Uri’s answers.
How much history does TipRanks have on analysts?
Our data goes back to January 2009. Over 11 years we have gathered over 1 million analyst ratings which is statistically significant. We are continuing our data collection and expanding our coverage from day to day.
Where do you get the info on TipRanks from?
Our technology is based on natural language processing and is very advanced. It enables us to process many different datasets, including analyst research and ratings, financial news websites and blogs, social media, corporate filings, 13F forms, and any other financial data available online.
The beautiful thing about technology is once you develop it, it is scalable.
Does TipRanks have an Android app?
We have an iPhone app that gets excellent feedback from customers. As we speak, we are working on our Android app which we expect to release by the end of Q3. In the meantime, our web platform is designed to maximize user experience and can be easily used on your smartphone or tablet.
What do you do when rating is strong buy, 10 score, BUT target price is well below current market price?
I’m glad you asked that. We don’t give financial advice; we just bring you the data to help you make informed investment decisions.
Do you use TipRanks for your own investments?
I use it all the time. The tools I use most often are Smart Portfolio, Insiders’ Hot Stocks, and Analysts’ Top Stocks.
When will you cover Euronext stock? What about other countries?
Currently we cover the United States and Canada. Our next market will be the UK, planned by the end of May. We will then expand to German coverage and by the end of Q4 we will be able to support the whole of Europe.
Our next markets will be the Asian markets. We already have most of the data available through our API – we work with a lot of banks and hedge funds that use our data and we will add coverage to our site.
Is there a way to see the performance of a blogger or analyst for more or less than 1 year?
Yes, you can see analyst performance over different time frames. The easiest way to explain how, is to show you how this works.
If you go to an analyst, say Jason Helfstein from Oppenheimer you will see the default for his performance is 1 year. There are four time frames in total to measure his performance per stock rating – 2 years, 1 year, 3 months, and 1 month. You can easily adjust the time-frame, as shown below.
For each time frame, his success rate and average return is different, as you can see in the image.
This is a great example of how you can adjust TipRanks to your personal investment style and preferences, for example long-term versus short-term investments.
Can you get notifications or alerts when a chosen expert analyst adds a new stock, says buy, sell, or hold?
Yes. Our app offers push notifications for the stocks and experts you follow. On desktop whenever you go to the site you can see your notifications. We also send emails with notifications, you can choose to receive emails in real-time, or limited to once a day.
Additionally, if you have a Smart Portfolio, we can send you a weekly overview of your portfolio performance and activity.
Do you cover all analysts? Why do analysts sometimes disappear from TipRanks?
We only track analysts that are actively issuing reports and ratings, currently over 6,500 in total.
If an analyst leaves their job and no longer issues reports and ratings, we can no longer track their performance.
Until recently we only tracked the ratings of analysts who we knew who they are. We have now added unknown analyst ratings to the system.
We want to ensure we track as many analysts as possible, so if you know of any that we are missing, please send us their name and the firm they work for to support@tipranks.com.
