Is MSFT Getting Ready to take on GOOGL with AI-powered Bing?

There was a time when the most searched word on Microsoft’s (MSFT) search engine, Bing, was another search engine, Google (GOOGL). However, this could change very soon.

According to a report from The Information, Microsoft could launch a version of Bing using the artificial intelligence (AI) that propels OpenAI-launched chatbot ChatGPT. This version of the search engine could be launched as soon as by March this year, according to the report.

ChatGPT has proved to be immensely popular as the chatbot was made free for public testing in November last year. The chatbot can imitate human speaking styles and can generate human-like conversations based on user prompts.

MSFT had already given an indication of this move last year in a blog post when it stated that it was looking at integrating image-generation software that extensively uses AI, DALL-E 2, into Bing. DALL-E 2 has also been developed by OpenAI.

According to a Reuters report, the technology giant has extensively backed the San Francisco-based AI company OpenAI, with $1 billion in funding, and has entered into a multi-year partnership with OpenAI to “develop AI supercomputing technologies on Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service.”

Microsoft Chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella is bullish on the future of AI. While speaking at the Microsoft Future Ready Leadership Summit in Mumbai, he stated that while generative AI tools, such as ChatGPT and Dall-E generated less than 1% of AI data sets globally in 2021, this percentage can rise to 10% of all AI data sets by 2025.

MSFT stock remains a favorite of Wall Street analysts with a Strong Buy consensus rating based on 24 Buys and three Holds.
