D-Wave Quantum Inc. (QBTS) is teaming up with the University of Arkansas’ Supply Chain Management Research Center to study how quantum computing could help solve complex supply chain problems, including routing, inventory planning, and resource allocation.
The collaboration, announced at CSCMP EDGE 2026, also creates the Quantum Supply Chain Initiative Support Fund. The fund will support research, education, and industry work focused on applying quantum and hybrid-quantum computing to supply chains across retail, transportation, and national defense.
For D-Wave investors, the announcement adds another real-world use case for the quantum computing company’s optimization technology. Supply chain planning often involves large numbers of variables, from transportation routes and warehouse capacity to staffing and inventory, making it a natural target for D-Wave’s annealing-based systems.+
On Friday, QBTS shares dropped 4.77% to close at $15.77.
D-Wave Targets Real-World Supply Chain Use Cases
The research will look at areas such as logistics network design, scheduling, transportation routing, and decision-making during disruptions. D-Wave will also join the research center’s partnership program, which includes more than 25 industry partners.
The financial impact is less clear. D-Wave did not disclose the size of its contribution to the support fund, any customer contracts tied to the collaboration or expected revenue from the program.
That makes the partnership more relevant as evidence of D-Wave’s push into commercial optimization than as an immediate earnings catalyst. Investors will likely need to see customer deployments, contract values, or measurable revenue tied to supply chain applications before judging how meaningful the opportunity could become for QBTS.
Is QBTS Stock a Good Buy Now?
According to TipRanks data, D-Wave Quantum carries a Strong Buy consensus rating, based on 15 analysts issuing ratings in the past three months. The average QBTS stock price target is $35.79, implying about 126% upside from the current price.
