Tech giant Apple (AAPL) has reportedly canceled two planned MacBooks as it reorganizes its future laptop lineup. According to research firm Omdia, Apple has stopped work on a large foldable MacBook that would have measured between 16.1 and 18 inches when opened. The company has also scrapped a separate OLED MacBook that was planned with a 14.4- to 16.1-inch display. However, Apple’s overall plan to bring OLED screens has not changed. Instead, the company is reportedly changing which MacBook and iPad models will receive the technology.

It’s worth noting that the foldable device had already been delayed. Initially, it was expected to enter production in 2026, and earlier reports usually described the product as a large foldable iPad rather than a MacBook.

Meanwhile, the canceled 14.4- to 16.1-inch OLED MacBook would have created a new size category between Apple’s existing MacBook Pro models and the larger foldable device. Now that both projects have reportedly been canceled, Apple appears to be preparing another product to fill at least part of that gap.

Apple Is Developing a New 13.8-inch OLED MacBook

Indeed, Apple is now developing a new 13.8-inch OLED MacBook. This model would sit between the LCD MacBook Air and the more expensive OLED MacBook Pro. Apple may also place the camera beneath the display, which would remove the need for a visible camera cutout. Furthermore, color-filter-on-encapsulation technology could help make the screen thinner and more efficient.

At the higher end of the lineup, Apple is still expected to launch 14.3-inch and 16.3-inch OLED MacBook Pro models. These computers have also been called the “MacBook Ultra.” Based on current reports, they could arrive in the second half of 2026 or early 2027.

However, Apple reportedly does not plan to stop selling its current mini-LED MacBook Pro models as soon as the OLED versions launch. Instead, Omdia expects Apple to offer both types of screens for several years. This means that the mini-LED MacBook Pro could remain available until at least 2028.
