AMD Stock Up on Expanded FSR GPU Support

AMD Stock Up on Expanded FSR GPU Support
Story Highlights
  • AMD stock was up on Monday alongside a GPU update.
  • The company has expanded FSR 4.1 drivers to older GPUs.

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) stock was up on Monday after the chip company released a new driver update. The company has rolled out a new Adrenalin driver update that brings FSR 4.1 upscaling support to Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs. In short, this means players on AMD graphics cards can now get better frame rates and smoother visuals in over 300 games. At the same time, AMD also confirmed that support for RDNA 3 and RDNA 3.5 integrated GPUs (iGPUs) is on the way, which should bring the feature to more laptops, handhelds, and integrated graphics systems later on.

In addition, the update comes with a mix of new game support and fixes. Games like Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced and DOOM: The Dark Ages | Revelations are now supported. However, AMD also listed several known issues, including crashes and driver timeouts in some titles like Battlefield 6, along with some display glitches in VR setups and creative apps like Blender and Cinema 4D. The company says it is actively working on fixes for many of these problems in future updates.

Overall, AMD is pushing FSR 4.1 wider while still working through some growing pains in the driver stack. Updating and revisiting old tech is a new trend for AMD. The company also recently announced the return of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. While AMD has pitched this as a 10th anniversary celebration, it’s also likely a way to offer powerful gaming CPUs to customers at a time when new tech is hard to obtain due to the AI boom. This boom has increased prices and reduced supply of PC components.
