General Motors (NYSE:GM) Ticks Up with New Enclave

Story Highlights

GM pares back its electric line, retools one of its premiere SUVs, and gains just a little bit in the process.

The Buick Enclave is one of General Motors’ (NYSE:GM) premiere SUVs, so it’s not much of a surprise to see that the automaker is retooling it in a bid to make it even better and more appealing to potential buyers. That was good enough for investors, who sent shares up fractionally in Tuesday morning’s trading.

Perhaps the first question some would ask here is about its propulsion source. No, it’s not a new electric, as it will remain a gas vehicle, at least for now. The 2025 Enclave will boast a wide array of new features and even get a makeover down to the skeleton. The model will be taller, wider, and longer, with significant changes to the interior.

The “reverse checkmark” headlights will be in play, and a “floating center console” that isn’t attached to the front instrument panel will be available. All three subclasses in the Enclave line will have the Super Cruise hands-free driving system, and prices will start at around $43,000.

Dialing Back on Electrics

Meanwhile, GM also took a step back on the electric car notion, as it canceled the Hummer EV2 base model. That’s actually not much of a shock to observers, as reports noted that the Hummer EV wasn’t selling all that well to begin with. The downside is that the EV2 base model was actually the most affordable in the line, which works to make Hummer more of a premium brand. But given that a lot of truck owners don’t exactly seem interested in electric anyway, this move, though disappointing, might have been for the best.

Is GM a Good Stock to Buy?

Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on GM stock based on 12 Buys, six Holds, and one Sell assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. After a 25.91% rally in its share price over the past year, the average GM price target of $51.17 per share implies 14.56% upside potential.
